Crossfit:
What a wonderful day for a triathlon! The CrossFit Akron Triathlon was held Sunday, June 24.
Five CrossFit Akron athletes embarked on a epic adventure of a 400m swim, 12m bike, 5k run.
I myself, have done multiple triathlons, but the other 4 have done minimal or no tri’s at all.
Our whole crew used CrossFit training to prepare for the work that was done that day.
Swimming came up first… Cindy Virdo of CrossFit Akron Swim Coach and Firestone High School Swimming was eager to help out Phil and Ben to be tuned up for an open water swim.
Most of our athletes had ridden a bike in some capacity or another with short mileage distance..

The running training was performed during workouts at CrossFit Akron.
What made the difference in all of our athletes performance this day was the addition of CrossFit workout. Our team has focused on doing 3 or more CrossFit style training sessions at CrossFit Akron for over the last 6 to 9 months. With the level of improved strength and conditioning, we all had stellar performances.
Jeff (on the left) has done a handful of endurance events. This triathlon was one of his firsts. He commented on how much stronger he felt on the bike and the run. He is overall pleased with this effort so far.

Phil (in the white) had his very first triathlon. He heard that we were putting it on and wanted to accept the challenge. He had practiced swimming with Cindy, but other than that did minimal bike or run training. he was amazed how he completed the triathlon and was not sore the next day.
Jamie (in the orange) hey completed his first triathlon here. Relying on his past training with Cindy from high school, and a new be bought by with 150 miles ridden on it, he did a great job completing his first one under his goal time of an 1:10.
Ben (on the far right) had his first triathlon there as well. Before the race he had asked a couple questions and we talked about his overall conditioning. I reassured him that with the CrossFit training, it will show itself for the race.
The only triathlon training that I have done in the last year is to bike 7 miles to and from work. I’ve only ran at most 15 miles this whole year and 0 swimming. I am really excited since my time went from 1:04 to 1:02 to 1:01 the last few years.
