Abraham Lincoln had very limited schooling, however, he was self-taught. Lincoln along with his family shifted to Illinois in the year 1830. Here Lincoln, involved in working various fields such as flatboats on the Ohio & Mississippi Rivers, had been a store clerk in the New Salem community. He also entered into politics. In the year 1832, Abraham Lincoln attempted to get a seat in the House of Representatives in Illinois; however, he couldn’t make the victory. Lincoln had been giving support to the Whig party. He again tried in the election held in 1834. This time he was successful.
