Here’s how to treat your casino dealers and server. It’s the same way as treating your neighborhood grocery clerk. Remember to always tip them promptly =) and your grocery clerks! Just kidding.

Casinos are type of business that patrons expect to be served at every turn. With rare exceptions, there is very little self-service at a casino and as such, you will interact with many servers, dealers, and other casino employees. Whether you play blackjack, slots, poker, or even bet on horses, you will encounter some type of service employee. While you gamble at the casino, remember the following items.

Cocktail Waitresses Are Not Your Girlfriend

Many people think that because cocktail waitresses dress in sexier outfits and are friendly, it gives them a license to say and do anything they want. You wouldn’t go up and grab the random ass of someone walking down the street would you? If that hot cocktail waitress was in a public place and not forced to serve you, would you still make those crude comments to her or proposition her to join you in your hotel? The ladies serving drinks are there to make the experience more fun. It is fine to flirt and be friendly, but know where to draw the line.

Dealers Cannot Control the Cards

Contrary to popular belief, the dealers at the table cannot control the cards that you get when you play casino games. Don’t get mad at them because you are running lousy or did not get the exact card you wanted. You know that the house has the edge in all casino games with the exception of poker.

Also, in nearly all games, the dealers never actually shuffle the cards. They only pitch them and collect or pay out the money. The dealers have zero incentive to cheat and you will lose plenty of money over the long term regularly so thinking that the dealer cheated you is silly.

Give Respect to Get Respect

Servers are regular people like many of you. We have families and lives outside of the casino. This is our job. When you are at your job, you expect to be treated civilly, so it would make sense to do that when you are at someone else’s job yes?

We are more likely to give you special attention and excellent service if you are nice and at least civil than we are if you treat us like dirt. Servers can easily “get really busy” and make you as annoyed as you make us. Many won’t admit to that, but it happens.

Some of our favorite patrons are the low rollers who come in and treat everyone like they were long time friends. Why? It isn’t because of the tips because most aren’t able to tip that well. It is because they make the job enjoyable. I would rather you be nice to me and tip me 50 cents or a $1 than be a jerk and leave me $20. While good tips are great, they don’t make up for long term abuse.

Next time you are in the casino, remember the above points when interacting with your servers. You don’t have to be their best friend. Just don’t be “that guy” or “that girl” that they talk about in the break room.
